Injury Niners sticking with David Akers     -- Thu Jan 10 7:51 pm --

Harbaugh stays loyal to veteran kicker
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- David Akers is keeping his job as San Francisco's starting kicker. For now, anyway. Jim Harbaugh made the announcement after practice Thursday, two days ahead of the 49ers' NFC divisional playoff game against the Green Bay Packers (12-5) at Candlestick Park. Akers revealed last week he underwent double hernia surgery last February, then re-aggravated the area when he slipped on the field during practice. (AP)

FF Today's Take: It's been a roller coaster season for Akers. After starting the season strong, which inclduded a successful 63-yard field goal try, Akers has seen his accuracy suffer as a result of reaggravating his groin injury. Following the team's week 9 bye, Akers was a paltry 15 of 23 in FGA.
