Chargers have doubts in Mathews     -- Wed Jan 9 11:45 am --

Mathews may face some competition in 2013
According to the Union-Tribune San Diego, there is "some doubt" in the Chargers organization that Ryan Mathews will develop into "the player that was envisioned three years ago." Mathews has lost his biggest supporters in Norv Turner and A.J. Smith. Now, what remains of the Chargers front office believes Mathews can have a productive career, but he must “further refine the technical aspects of the position.” (Union-Tribune San Diego)

FF Today's Take: Mathews’ lack of production did come in one of Philip Rivers’ worst seasons as a starter, and behind a porous offensive line. However, Mathews was yet again unable to stay healthy and broke his collarbone twice in 2012. Don’t expect Mathews to be thought of as a lock for first or second round pick like he was in most drafts last year.
