AD's date with destiny falls just short     -- Sun Dec 30 8:05 pm --

Nine yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson's record
Running back Adrian Peterson finished with 199 yards on 34 carries to surpass the 2,000-yard mark on the season and come up just short of Eric Dickerson's single-season record. Peterson needed 208 yards rushing in the game to set the mark. He finished with 2,097 yards, the second best single-season rushing performance in NFL history. (ESPN 1500 Twin Cities)

FF Today's Take: On the one-year anniversary of his knee surgery, Peterson had a chance to break the record on the game's final offensive play, but settled for a 26-yard gain that left the ball on the Green Bay 11. Minnesota kicked the game-winning field goal on the next play, sending the Vikings to the playoffs. AD has done the unthinkable this season, recovering from a serious knee injury to threaten one of the most significant marks in NFL history. He warrants strong consideration for top-pick status in fantasy drafts next season.
