Cedric Benson out at least eight weeks-- Mon Oct 8 11:55 pm -- Lisfranc injury
Cedric Benson has a Lisfranc foot injury that is expected to sideline him eight weeks and could end his season if doctors determine he needs surgery, two sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Monday night.
Benson is scheduled to undergo further evaluation and doctors will be examining the MRI that the running back already has taken, according to sources.
Packers HC Mike McCarthy already had ruled out Benson from Sunday night's game in Houston against the Texans. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take:This is the same injury that ended Darren McFadden's season midway through 2011 and it is a setback for fantasy owners who loved the consistent touches Benson was seeing. While the injury appears to be a bad thing for the Packers' offense, it could also give McCarthy a reason to increase his reliance on Aaron Rodgers. Alex Green figures to be the next man up, but James Starks could easily split carries with him as soon as this week with John Kuhn likely to see all short-yardage work.
