Injury RG3 suffers "mild" concussion     -- Sun Oct 7 8:30 pm --

Kirk Cousins holds his own in relief
Robert Griffin III suffered a mild concussion during the third quarter of the Redskins’ 24-17 loss to the Falcons, according to coach Mike Shanahan. On a third and goal play from the Atlanta 3, Griffin scrambled to his right and got hit by linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. Griffin was slow getting up and had to be helped to the sideline. Fellow rookie Kirk Cousins was soon told that he would be finishing the game at quarterback as Griffin would not be able to return. Griffin went into the locker room a short time later and did not return. (CSN Washington)

FF Today's Take: Given how much physical punishment he has already taken and the amount he runs, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before RG3 took a hit like the one Weatherspoon laid on him. Griffin will have to pass a baseline test and get cleared by an independent doctor before he can return to practice, leaving his Week 6 status against Minnesota in doubt. Kirk Cousins threw for a score in relief and appears to be ahead of Rex Grossman on the depth chart.
