Injury Gates, Mathews listed as questionable     -- Fri Sep 14 6:40 pm --

Chargers' stars could sit out this weekend
The Chargers revealed little with Friday's official injury report. They officially ruled left tackle Jared Gaither (back) and cornerback Shareece Wright out of Sunday's game against Tennessee. No shocker there. They also listed running back Ryan Mathews (clavicle) and Antonio Gates (ribs) as questionable, a 50-50 chance of playing. Although, reading between the lines, Gates has a higher possibility of playing that Mathews. Both players were limited in work, but Mathews hasn't completed a full practice since injuring his clavicle on Aug. 9. Gates has missed an entire week of practice and still played, and he's more likely than Mathews to do so in this instance. Mathews said his activity level was similar to Thursday, where he ran just a few routes and team drills. He hasn't done anything to truly test the durability of his surgically-repaired bone. FF Today's Take: Mathews doesn't appear to be a strong play this week even if he does suit up, as the Chargers are likely to limit his carries. Gates' owners should start perusing the waiver wire, as the talented 32-year-old is starting to look more brittle with age.
