Shanahan updates his injured RBs -- Mon Aug 20 8:05 pm --
Helu, Hightower recovering from soreness | HC Mike Shanahan provided updates for his injured RBs:
RB Roy Helu, Jr.: "Right now both Achilles are a little sore. That’s not good news, but he’s had a little recovery time, so hopefully it’s not as bad as it was last week."
RB Tim Hightower (left knee): "He’s a little sore today. I just talked to him. He practiced today, so hopefully he keeps getting better this week. If he does feel good enough to play, we’ll play him. If not, we’ll try to play him in Tampa." (Washington Times)
FF Today's Take: We typically don't post a coach's quotes following practice, but the issues Helu has had with his Achilles have been one of the most underreported stories of the preseason. His absence - along with Hightower's recovery from his ACL surgery - have opened the door for Evan Royster to become the likely Week 1 starter. Rookie Alfred Morris has also enjoyed a solid preseason and could find his way into the starting lineup at some point given Shanahan's unpredictable nature.
