Ryan Mathews out 4-6 weeks-- Thu Aug 9 11:30 pm -- Broken collarbone suffered in first preseason game
San Diego Chargers starting running back Ryan Mathews is expected to miss at least a month after breaking his collarbone in a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. Mathews was injured on his first carry of the preseason in the first quarter and did not return to the game. He is expected to have surgery Friday morning, and coach Norv Turner said he'll be out four to six weeks. (AP)
FF Today's Take:Getting injured after one carry in a preseason game isn't going to ease concerns about Mathews' durability. Best case scenario - he is available for Week 1 - but hopes for a heavy workload early in the season are likely gone. Expect Mathews value to plummet over the next week but he is still capable of RB1 numbers albeit with a higher injury risk.
