Pierre Thomas To Miss Rest Of Preseason -- Thu Aug 27 6:45 pm --
Mike Bell Likely To See More Work, Maybe Even Into The Season | New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said there is a chance that a lingering knee injury will sideline running back Pierre Thomas for the team's exhibition game against the Miami Dolphins on September 3 at the Superdome.
Thomas, who suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee against the Houston Texans, already has been ruled out of Saturday's exhibition game against the Oakland Raiders at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
"I'm not as concerned other than the snaps he's missing," Payton said. "I think he's going to recover fully. So I don't think it's going to be an ongoing season problem for him. It's just going to take a week and a half here...I'm confident of the type of injury he has that it's going to heal properly and not be something that drags on." (New Orleans Times-Picayune)
FF Today's Take: Cue Mike Bell's continued rise to fantasy stardom? With both Thomas and Reggie Bush sidelined, Bell should get a first-class opportunity to show Payton what he could do in a lead-back role this week. As for Thomas, his fantasy luster is wearing off just a bit from a early-to-mid third-round "value" pick. However, he is still the most complete back in the Saints' backfield, so a late third or early fourth-round pick is warranted in 12-team leagues.
