Sanchez Chosen As Jets’ Starting QB     -- Wed Aug 26 10:30 am --

Beats Out Clemens
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP)—Rookie Mark Sanchez was named the New York Jets’ starting quarterback Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the decision. Sanchez, the fifth overall draft pick out of Southern California, beat out veteran Kellen Clemens with a solid training camp and will be under center for the Jets’ season opener at Houston on Sept. 13. The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the decision. (AP)

FF Today's Take: The Jets wanted this day to come since they traded up in the draft to select Sanchez. He does not have the best supporting cast of receivers and HC Rex Ryan will likely bring him along slowly. Sanchez does not have as much experience as most rookie quarterbacks so it is unlikely he will be able to consistenly produce steady numbers making him a backup fantasy quarterback entering 2009.
