Redskins Agree To Terms With Orakpo -- Fri Jul 31 1:30 am --
No. 13 Overall Pick Figures To Boost Redskins' Sack Numbers | After missing the first day of training camp, first-round draft pick Brian Orakpo has just reached agreement on a deal with the Washington Redskins. CAA's Ben Dogra, one of Orakpo's agents, confirmed that the two sides came to terms late Thursday night.
Dogra said that deal is for five years but no other details were immediately available.
Orakpo was the 13th overall pick in the April draft. Though he played defensive end at the University of Texas, the Redskins would like to see if he can fill a void at the strong-side linebacker position. (Washington Post)
FF Today's Take: For as good as the Redskins defense was last season (fourth in total defense), Washington finished tied for 28th in turnovers forced (18) and sacks (24). Along with the addition of DT Albert Haynesworth, Orakpo will be counted upon to drastically improve those totals. While the rookie is penciled in as the starting SAM linebacker on early downs, he is expected to move to DE in nickel and dime situations.
