DA Wants Plaxico To Serve Jail Time -- Mon Jul 27 11:01 am --
Burress Would Have Agreed To One Year | NEW YORK -- Manhattan's district attorney says he wants former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress to serve time in prison, the New York Post reported.
Robert Morgenthau told the newspaper that Burress, who shot himself with an unlicensed gun in November, was willing to agree to spend a year in jail, but prosecutors insisted on two, the Post reported.
"We've always taken the position that he's going to have to go to jail, whether by trial or by plea," Morgenthau told the Post for a story in Monday's edition.

FF Today's Take: Burress has had his case moved back to February of next year. Since NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell isn't likely to hand down any league suspensions until after his case has been ruled on, it appears the former Giants receiver should be able to play in 2009. Burress was released by the Giants in April and is currently a free agent.
