| Fitzpatrick officialy becomes a free agent Jets void option for 2nd year By: Mike Krueger | Feb 11 2017, 7:00 am
| Ryan Fitzpatrick officially is a free agent. Again.
The contract the quarterback signed with the Jets last July was voided Friday, making him eligible to hit the free-agent market March 9.
Fitzpatrick, who turned 34 in November, technically signed a two-year contract after a five-month holdout last offseason. But the deal contained language that allowed the Jets to void the deal five days after Super Bowl LI, essentially making it a one-year, $12-million contract. (Newsday.com)
FFToday's Take: The Jets will take a $5 million hit against the salary cap. Fitzpatrick had a disastrous 2016 season throwing 17 interceptions and only 12 TDs in 14 games. The Jets are a quarterback needy team with Christian Hackenberg, Bryce Petty and Geno Smith currently on the roster. The may look to free agency for a veteran stopgap in 2017.
