Texans to promote Mike Vrabel to DC
Announcement follows promotion of Romeo Crennel to Assistant HC
By: Jake Gordon | Jan 18 2017, 10:19 am

The Houston Texans are promoting linebackers coach Mike Vrabel to defensive coordinator, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Romeo Crennel, the Texans' defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, will stay with the team as assistant head coach. His contract as defensive coordinator was set to expire next Tuesday. FFToday's Take: This marks another weird turn for a coaching staff coming off a division title. Houston was able to keep Romeo Crennel by offering him a promotion to Assistant HC and will now back fill the DC position with former Patriots linebacker, Mike Vrabel, who played under Crennel. The duo have done well keeping the Texans defense amongst the best in the league despite the absence of J.J. Watt for most of the 2016 season.
