J.J. Watt ahead of schedule
Recovering from surgically repaired back
By: Doug Orth | Jan 16 2017, 7:05 pm

Texans star DE J.J. Watt is considered ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from back surgery to repair a herniated disc. He had a pair of procedures to address his back problems and was limited to three games this season, but is expected back for next season. Although it's unclear what type of activities Watt will be cleared to participate in this offseason, there's hope that he'll do some work during OTAs. Watt has been gaining weight back now that he's cleared to lift weights. He had gotten much lighter to reduce the strain on his back and hadn't been able to maintain his bulk during his initial convalescence. (Houston Chronicle)

FFToday's Take: Watt was seen doing some sprints prior to the Texans' Wild Card game win over the Raiders, so he's definitely on the right track. Houston finished No. 1 in total defense this season - an amazing feat without the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year - so a return to form by Watt could easily take this defense from great to dominant.
