Riddick unlikely to see many more carries
Handled only 43 carries in 2015
By: Doug Orth | Jul 25 2016, 4:25 pm

The biggest key to the backfield's success is the development of Ameer Abdullah. As a rookie last season, he was plagued by ball security issues early in the campaign, but closed out the year strong. He averaged 4.7 yards per attempt and put the ball on the ground just once across the final eight games. Theo Riddick is what he is, a below-average runner, but elite receiver out of the backfield. He's a key offensive cog after catching 80 passes last season, but expecting significant growth as a ball carrier borders on unreasonable. (MLive.com)

FFToday's Take: This opinion contradicts OC Jim Bob Cooter's expectation in early June that Riddick would see more carries. A slight bump from the 43 carries he did receive a season ago is reasonable, but owners should not expect that total to double. Abdullah should see his touches increase, however, after putting a lid on his ball-security issues. He averaged 10.5 touches as a rookie, but should be around 15 as a NFL sophomore. Both backs should be viewed as high-end flex/RB3 types in PPR formats.
