Vikings eyeing more shotgun plays in 2016
Peterson has struggled out of shotgun his entire career
By: Doug Orth | Jul 21 2016, 11:35 pm

Adrian Peterson has vowed to become a better pass-catcher. But what is more relevant in regards to his playing time is whether he will be able to adapt to the shotgun spread attack that better suits third-year QB Teddy Bridgewater. Peterson struggled running out of the shotgun early last season, so the Vikings started calling more under-center plays. They figure to go back to a more shotgun-centric offense this season, which means Peterson will have to make the most of his shotgun carries. He will finally get a chance to take some in contract drills during training camp. (Minneapolis Star-Tribune)

FFToday's Take: AP has 2,381 career carries but only 122 of them have come out of shotgun. In those attempts, he is averaging 3.8 YPC. Last season, he ran for only 59 yards on 37 shotgun carries. The Vikings attempted this approach in Week 1 last season and mostly abandoned it after getting routed by San Francisco. If Minnesota has early success with it this year, don't be surprised if Peterson struggles to live up to his draft position.
