Melvin Gordon placed on IR
Torn cartilage in left knee
By: Doug Orth | Dec 21 2015, 7:05 pm

Chargers rookie RB Melvin Gordon will miss the team's final two games, coach Mike McCoy said Monday, due to torn left-knee cartilage the running back sustained against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Gordon, who went 15th in the NFL Draft, finished his rookie season with 641 rushing yards on 184 carries (3.5 per carry). He caught 33 of 37 passes for an average of 5.8 per reception. His longest rush was 27 yards. Though Gordon never scored a touchdown this season, he also seldom played when the offense reached the red zone. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

FFToday's Take: Gordon's rookie season will go down as a huge disappointment based on his low YPC, four lost fumbles and the fact he didn't score a single touchdown on over 200 touches. It should be noted, however, that he was often pulled for Danny Woodhead in the red zone and suffered from one of the worst run-blocking lines in the NFL. Assuming San Diego addresses its shortcomings up front this offseason, Gordon has a chance to live up to expectations in 2016. The Chargers will play out the string with Donald Brown and Woodhead in the backfield.
