Steve Smith vs DET
Probably one of the best waiver wire pickups of the year, along with Anquan Boldin, has been Carolina WR Steve Smith. He leads the Panthers in all receiving categories already passing the 1000-yd mark. Fantasy Championship Week finds Smith with a great matchup against a Detroit secondary that's been torched by Trent Green, Doug Flutie, and Brett Favre over the last three weeks. They rank 27th in pass defense and as a team are going for a record 24th straight road loss. They'll get it and Steve Smith will be a big reason why.

Glenn/Galloway vs NYG
The Giants have packed it in, scared off their coach and are trying not to get hurt over the next two weeks. Did you see that debacle against New Orleans on national TV last Sunday night? I know the Giants have some injury problems in their secondary but that was inexcusable. Unfortunately, we may see more of the same this week as CB Ralph Brown, a replacement starter, injured his shoulder in the first quarter of last weeks game and has subsequently been put on IR. And the hits just keep on coming. The battered and bruised Giants secondary may be just what those dumb players on the Dallas offense need to get their confidence back.

Koren Robinson vs ARI
Last hope for everyone high on Robinson (me included) at the beginning of the season. However, I'm not holding my breath, even with this good matchup against a bad Arizona secondary. Darrell Jackson is likely to reap the benefits, leaving Robinson owners to once again ask the rhetorical question... "Waz up with Koren Robinson?" He's 23rd in receiving yards (795), 30th in receptions (56) and somewhere in the middle of the 3rd page, you'll find Robinson's name next to his 3 TDs. Yuck, certainly disappointing considering his preseason expectations. I'll stick with Jackson here as the prime Seattle receiver to exploit the Cardinals.

James Thrash vs SF
You may wonder why we are even discussing James Thrash on this page. After all, does any team throw to their wide receivers less than the Philadelphia Eagles? OK, maybe the Ravens... but the numbers, or lack thereof that Thrash, Pinkston, and Mitchell have put up this season are interesting.... 103 catches and 3 TDs, combined. Are these guys really that bad or does Andy Reid have such a love for his three RBs that he's oblivious to his WR talent? No clue on that one, but before you disregard Thrash this week, keep in mind that the 49ers can be scored on through the air, giving up 1.6 TDs per game. But most of all, I want to see Thrash catch an eleven-yd pass, take a knee, and point to the sky like, well, like this...

Recap - 12/24
Did anybody see James Thrash's one catch for 13 yds? I missed it and I'm dying to know if he thanked the heavens for that monumental play.

Anyway, It was another brutal week on the WR front. I've had worse, but 12 DNA's doesn't help the bottom line very much. Horn and Owens left with injuries, Darrell Jackson didn't catch a ball, and David Boston couldn't even break the 10-yd mark. It also doesn't help the Chad Johnson couldn't even crack the top 20 despite having 7 catches for 115 yds. We've been saying it all year and the numbers back it up... WRs are the toughest position to predict in fantasy football.

Note: Next week we will have some guest commentary on this page from a number of different dwellers of the FF Today Forums. Thanks Guys!
