DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Kyle Vanden Bosch, Calvin Pace ®
DT - Wendell Bryant, Russell Davis

Key Back-ups
DE - Fred Wakefield, Dennis Johnson
DT - Barron Tanner, Marcus Bell

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Ronald McKinnon
OLB - Raynoch Thompson, Levar Fisher

Key Back-ups
MLB - James Darling, Gerald Hayes ®, Tony Gilbert ®
OLB - James Darling, LeVar Woods, Gerald Hayes ®, Trev Faulk

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Adrian Wilson (SS), Dexter Jackson (FS)
CB - Duane Starks, David Barrett

Key Back-ups
S - Justin Lucas, Michael Stone, Quentin Harris
CB - Renaldo Hill, Coby Rhinehart

NOTES:
Kyle Vanden Bosch may be moved to the left side to make room for rookie Calvin Pace. Fred Wakefield has more heart than skill and was a starter last year for lack of better options. Dennis Johnson may also factor in as a pass rush specialist.

Ronald McKinnon's future appears shaky and his statistics appear likely to continue their downward trend. AZ drafted two MLB's and free agent James Darling may compete with him for at least time there in passing packages, if not as the starter. Darling could also beat Levar Fisher for the ROLB job. Fisher had knee problems wipe out most of his rookie season.

Atlanta
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Patrick Kerney, Brady Smith
NT - Ed Jasper

Key Back-ups
DE - Travis Hall, Ronald Flemons
DT - Ellis Johnson, Ryan Watson

LINEBACKERS
ILB - Keith Brooking, Chris Draft
OLB - Will Overstreet, Matt Stewart

Key Back-ups
ILB - Artie Ulmer, Twan Russell
OLB - Keith Newman, Sam Rogers, Karon Riley

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Cory Hall (SS), Keion Carpenter (FS)
CB - Ray Buchanan, Tyrone Williams

Key Back-ups
S - Gerald McBurrows
CB - Tod McBride, Bryan Scott ®

NOTES:
Ed Jasper started every game at NT in their base 3-4 last season, but is recovering from back surgery. Due to Jasper's condition, Ellis Johnson was expected to compete for starter at NT, but he disappeared from their latest mandatory mini-camp and is reported to be considering retirement.

Chris Draft put up impressive numbers in limited duty last season. He could have a breakout season if he stays healthy this year. Coaches would like Will Overstreet to start at weak-side LB this fall after his rookie season was plagued by injuries to his left shoulder.

Baltimore
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Adalius Thomas, Anthony Weaver
NT - Kelly Gregg

Key Back-ups
DE - Marques Douglas, Riddick Parker, Jarrett Johnson ®
DT - Ma'ake Kemoeatu

LINEBACKERS
ILB - Ray Lewis, Ed Hartwell
OLB - Peter Boulware, Terrell Suggs ®

Key Back-ups
ILB - Bernardo Harris
OLB - Cornell Brown

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Edward Reed (SS), Gary Baxter (FS)
CB - Chris McAlister, Corey Fuller

Key Back-ups
S - Wil Demps, Anthony Mitchell, Chad Williams, Gerome Sapp ®, Antowine Sanders ®
CB - Tom Knight, Alvin Porter

NOTES:
Michael McCrary is expected to announce his retirement or be released soon. Adalius Thomas is an outstanding athletic specimen who has yet to get a consistent chance as a starter. He is a tweener who can be used at LB, as well. His value on special teams could have Marques Douglas sharing time at end to keep Thomas fresh.

Baltimore has 1st round pick Terrell Suggs dropping weight to be able to handle OLB, but his starting is not a given. Cornell Brown impressed vs. the run in his return to the NFL last year after missing a season. Suggs should ultimately win the job and will at least see work in rush packages.

Gary Baxter and Corey Fuller have been rotating at free safety and cornerback. The final decision on where each will play is not expected until training camp.

Buffalo
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Aaron Schobel, Ryan Denney
DT - Pat Williams, Sam Adams

Key Back-ups
DE - Marcus Jones (injured), Chris Kelsay ®, Grant Irons
DT - Ron Edwards, Justin Bannan

LINEBACKERS
MLB - London Fletcher
OLB - Takeo Spikes, Jeff Posey

Key Back-ups
MLB - Brandon Spoon, Mario Haggan ®
OLB - DaShon Polk, Angelo Crowell ®

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Coy Wire (SS), Pierson Prioleau (FS)
CB - Nate Clements, Antoine Winfield

Key Back-ups
S - Izell Reese
CB - Dainon Sidney, Kevin Thomas, Terrence McGee ®

NOTES:
Free agent Marcus Jones is recovering from knee surgery last fall, but is expected to be ready for training camp and have a good chance at starting opposite Aaron Schobel at LDE. Ryan Denney holds the job for now, and rookie Chris Kelsay will also challenge him.

London Fletcher should have plenty of opportunity to roam freely with the addition of space-eater Sam Adams paired with talented wide-body Pat Williams in front of him. Free agents Takeo Spikes and Jeff Posey round out what should be a strong and productive LB group. Posey, a concerted DE, should be very involved in the pass rush, as the Bills failed to generate enough last season.

Pierson Prioleau and free agent Izell Reese will compete for the starting FS job. Coy Wire came on strong as a rookie and should be a player to watch for big things.

Carolina
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Julius Peppers, Mike Rucker
DT - Kris Jenkins, Brenston Buckner

Key Back-ups
DE - Al Wallace, Josh Taves, Kavika Pittman
DT - Shane Burton

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Dan Morgan
OLB - Will Witherspoon, Mark Fields

Key Back-ups
MLB - Lester Towns
OLB - Greg Favors, Brian Allen

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Mike Minter (SS), Deon Grant (FS)
CB - Reggie Howard, Terry Cousin

Key Back-ups
S - Damien Richardson, Jarrod Cooper, Deke Cooper, Colin Branch ®
CB - Dante Wesley, Ricky Manning ®, Emanuel McDaniel

NOTES:
Remaining largely intact, expectations are high for the Panthers defense that was the surprise of 2002. Former 1st round pick Dan Morgan will try to finally stay healthy for a whole season to justify his hype.

Former 1st round pick Rashard Anderson was found to yet again be in violation of the league's substance abuse policy, and may not be able to apply for reinstatement until December. Emanuel McDaniel was signed to replace him and provide veteran competition at the nickel.

Chicago
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Alex Brown, Phillip Daniels
DT - Ted Washington, Keith Traylor

Key Back-ups
DE - Michael Haynes ®
DT - Bryan Robinson, Alfonso Boone, Ian Scott ®

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Brian Urlacher
OLB - Bryan Knight, Warrick Holdman

Key Back-ups
MLB - Lance Briggs
OLB - Mike Caldwell, Bobbie Howard, Joe Odom ®

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Mike Green (SS), Mike Brown (FS)
CB - R.W. McQuarters, Jerry Azumah

Key Back-ups
S - Bobby Gray, Todd Johnson ®
CB - Charles Tillmon ®, Roosevelt Williams, Todd McMillon,

NOTES:
Alex Brown proved people who doubted his ability to play the run wrong, so 1st round pick Michael Haynes will likely start off limited to pass rush situations, with Phillip Daniels perhaps moving inside in those situations.

Health and replacing Rosey Colvin's pass rush will be keys to the Bears defense returning to 2001 form. Speedy Bryan Knight will get the first chance to fill Colvin's shoes. Brian Urlacher is also expected to be more involved in the pass rush this season.

Mike Green's statistics last year belie his skills. Hard-hitting Bobby Gray, or rookie Todd Johnson, could replace him.

Cincinnati
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Justin Smith, Carl Powell
DT - John Thornton, Tony Williams

Key Back-ups
DE - Duane Clemons, Reinard Wilson, Elton Patterson ®
DT - Oliver Gibson, Glen Steele

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Kevin Hardy
OLB - Brian Simmons, Steve Foley

Key Back-ups
MLB - Armegis Spearman, Dwayne Levels
OLB - Adrain Ross, Riall Johnson, Khalid Abdullah, Tito Rodriguez

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Marquand Manuel (SS), Rogers Beckett (FS)
CB - Artrell Hawkins, Tory James

Key Back-ups
S - Mark Roman, Lamont Thompson, JoJuan Armour
CB - Jeff Burris, Dennis Weathersby, LaVar Glover

NOTES:
Marvin Lewis will hope to find a third down pass rusher in either Duane Clemons, who must return to form as a sack threat, or Reinhard Wilson, who will need to finally show the skills that made him a 1st round pick.

Free agent Kevin Hardy's tackle numbers should benefit from a move to MLB. When healthy, he is one of the better LB's in the league at rushing the passer, and should remain involved there.

The addition of Rogers Beckett, acquired on waivers from SD, further complicates the crowded S situation. This should be a wide-open competition in training camp.

Cleveland
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Courtney Brown, Kenard Lang
DT - Gerard Warren, Orpheus Roye

Key Back-ups
DE - Mark Word, Tyrone Rogers
DT - Alvin McKinley, Antonio Garay ®

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Barry Gardner
OLB - Kevin Bentley, Ben Taylor

Key Back-ups
MLB - Andra Davis, Brant Boyer
OLB - Chaun Thompson ®, Andra Davis

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Robert Griffith (SS), Earl Little (FS)
CB - Anthony Henry, Daylon McCutcheon

Key Back-ups
S - Michael Jameson
CB - Lewis Sanders, Raymond Walls, Chris Crocker ®, Michael Lehan ®

NOTES:
Recovering from microfracture surgery for his knee, Courtney Brown won't be available until training camp. After underwhelming his rookie year, injuries have impeded his career. He is heading dangerously close to high first round bust categorization. Mark Word filled in admirably and provided some pass rush last year. If Brown struggles or his knee remains a problem, Word is a guy to keep an eye on.

Losing all their starting LBs from last year and having none on their roster with extensive starting experience, this year's unit will be highly suspect. However, there are some great fantasy opportunities created with an entire group of new starters. While free agent Barry Gardner is currently penciled in at MLB, the staff is excited about Andra Davis. He will have a chance in training camp to win that job or one of the outside slots. Rookie Chaun Thompson is a small school player who had a tremendous combine, but Ben Taylor and Kevin Bentley are currently working with the first team on the outside. Bentley dropped 15 pounds to improve his quickness. Thompson should get most of his work rushing the QB in passing situations, at first.

Dallas
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Greg Ellis, Ebenezer Ekuban
DT - La'Roi Glover, Michael Myers

Key Back-ups
DE - Demetric Evans, Derrius Monroe, Colston Weatherington, Kevin DeRhonde, Charles Alston, Darrell Wright ®
DT - John Nix, Willie Blade, Daleroy Stewart

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Dat Nguyen
OLB - Dexter Coakley, Al Singleton

Key Back-ups
MLB - Bradie James ®, Jamal Brooks
OLB - Markus Steele, Louis Mackey

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Roy Williams (FS), Darren Woodson (SS)
CB - Derek Ross, Terence Newman ®

Key Back-ups
S - Tony Dixon, Lynn Scott, Woodrow Dantzler
CB - Mario Edwards, Donald Mitchell, B.J. Tucker, Pete Hunter

NOTES:
Ebenezer Ekuban is a player on the hot seat. He is a 1st round bust, and unless he starts getting to the QB more, could find himself losing time to one of the many unknown quantities Parcells has brought in at DE.

Dallas has a small, but active, starting LB group. They could be hurt by the lack of wide bodies inside, which translates to more tackle opportunities for the defensive backfield. Rookie Bradie James has the size at LB Parcells likes, and should find a spot by next season.

Denver
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Trevor Pryce, Bertrand Berry
DT - Daryl Gardener, Dorsett Davis

Key Back-ups
DE - Reggie Hayward, Bryant McNeal ®, Aaron Hunt ®, Clint Mitchell ®
DT - Lional Dalton, Nick Eason ®, Monsanto Pope

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Al Wilson
OLB - Ian Gold, John Mobley

Key Back-ups
MLB - Keith Burns, Terry Pierce ®
OLB - Jashon Sykes, Donnie Spragan

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Kenoy Kennedy (SS), Sam Brandon (FS)
CB - Deltha O'Neal, Kelly Herndon

Key Back-ups
S - Lee Flowers, Willie Middlebrooks
CB - Lenny Walls, Jimmy Spencer

NOTES:
Trevor Pryce anchors a line with an almost entirely new look this year. Free agent Daryl Gardener is the only other veteran with extensive starting. He is another starter, but has already had problems with his knee this summer. A collection of young veterans lacking starting experience and rookies will compete for the other DT and DE spot to provide a pass rush that was lacking last year and keep linemen off their active LBs. Dorsett Davis looks to have the edge at the other DT position, after a short experiment at DE. The team is down on Lionel Dalton.

There was concern Ian Gold was too small to be a full-time player, but he broke out in his first year as a starter, using his speed to add value in the pass rush. Al Wilson had a career year, netting 5 sacks to his first 100+ tackle season, greatly improving his fantasy status.

Free agent Lee Flowers was brought in to add depth at safety, where former 1st round pick and converted CB Willie Middlebrooks needs to show something fast to remain on the team. Lee will also challenge Kennoy Kennedy for the starting SS spot.

Detroit
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Robert Porcher, Kalimba Edwards
DT - Shaun Rogers, Kelvin Pritchett

Key Back-ups
DE - James Hall, Jared DeVries, Cory Redding ®
DT - Luther Ellis (injured), Antwan Lake

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Earl Holmes
OLB - Barrett Green, Boss Bailey ®

Key Back-ups
MLB - Wali Rainer, Josh Thornhill
OLB - Donte' Curry, Jeff Gooch, Brian Williams

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Corey Harris (SS), Brian Walker (FS)
CB - Chris Cash, Dre Bly

Key Back-ups
S - Terrance Holt ®, LaMar Campbell, Bracy Walker
CB - Andre Goodman, Jimmy Wyrick, Chris Watson

NOTES:
Kalimba Edwards emerged in the second half of last season and the sophomore should breakout as a quality sack producer in a full-time role this season. Luther Ellis tore his pectoral working out in early July and is expected to be unavailable through the preseason. He has been hampered by injuries the last few seasons, and at 30, this doesn't bode well for this season. This moves 13-year vet Kelvin Pritchett into the starting line-up and hurts their depth. Rookie Cory Redding may get more work at DT, but they should bring in some veteran help now, as well.

The value of Earl Holmes has diminished, as he is a liability in the pass defense and will be replaced by Wali Rainer on passing downs. Boss Bailey won't be handed a starting job, but is expected to win it. With Barrett Green on the weak-side, if Bailey does win the strong-side job, he could have trouble holding the point of attack at his size.

Andre Goodman was drafted higher than Chris Cash last year, but injuries limited him and Cash emerged with a solid rookie year. Goodman could challenge Cash in camp this year.

Green Bay
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, Joe Johnson
DT - Cletidus Hunt, Rod Walker

Key Back-ups
DE - Chukie Nwokorie, Aaron Kampman, Jamal Reynolds, Earl Cochran ®
DT - Kenny Peterson ®, Steve Warren, James Lee ®

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Nick Barnett ®
OLB - Na'il Diggs, Hannibal Naives

Key Back-ups
MLB - Hunter Hillenmeyer ®, Paris Lenon
OLB - Marcus Wilkins, Steve Josue ®, Torrance Marshall (suspended)

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Marques Anderson (SS), Darren Sharper (FS)
CB - Mike McKenzie, Al Harris

Key Back-ups
S - Antuan Edwards
CB - Bryant Westbrook, Bhawoh Jue

NOTES:
Joe Johnson was arrested for marijuana possession in May and has pleaded innocent. KGB is the nominal starter, but his strength is rushing the passer. Chukie Nwokorie will rotate in on most obvious run downs. Gilbert Brown is expected to resign with the team, but wide body rookie James Lee could develop into the new space-eater they need to keep linemen off their LBs. Rookie Earl Cochran was signed as an undrafted free agent, after some expected him to be taken in the supplemental draft.

1st round pick Nick Barnett rotated with Paris Lenon as MLB with the first team during spring mini-camp. The team's interest in Randall Godfrey could signify concern over experience of the MLB candidates and Barnett's size to play that spot. Hunter Hillenmeyer, another rookie, is now in the mix and MLB, but is still not a lock to make the roster. Na'il Diggs moves to the weak-side to replace Nate Wayne, but he and Barnett could switch spots if the rookie can't handle the middle. Wayne produced excellent stats there in their defense, and the talented Diggs should be able to do the same this season. Torrance Marshall was suspended for the first four games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Problems continue to derail his potential, and while the Packers appear supportive of him in the incident, his next problem as a Packer will be his last.

Al Harris should be tested in his first year as a full-time starter and as teams will want to avoid Mike McKenzie. If he is up to the challenge, he could be an excellent fantasy producer. Marques Anderson displayed a nose for the ball that can't be taught. He ran into the wall as a rookie down the stretch, so consistency is a concern. There is talk Green Bay could bring another veteran in to compete with him and Edwards.

Houston
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Gary Walker, Jerry DeLoach
NT - Seth Payne

Key Back-ups
DE - Shawn Worthen, Corey Sears
DT - Charles Hill

LINEBACKERS
ILB - Jamie Sharper, Jay Foreman
OLB - Kailee Wong, Charlie Clemons

Key Back-ups
ILB - Troy Evans
OLB - Shannon Taylor, Patrick Chukwurah, Antonio Wilson, Erik Flowers,
Antwan Peek ®

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Eric Brown (SS), Matt Stevens (FS)
CB - Aaron Glenn, Marcus Coleman

Key Back-ups
S - Ramon Walker, Traveres Tillman
CB - Kenny Wright

NOTES:
Free agent Charlie Clemons moves from MLB, where he played last year for NO, back to OLB, where he once had 13.5 sacks. Houston did not have the pressure on the QB from OLB that is required in a 3-4 defense. If Clemons can provide it, his fantasy production will jump. Rookie Antwan Peek is a tweener, and could be looked at to help the rush at OLB too.

Indianapolis
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Chad Bratzke, Dwight Freeney
DT - Larry Tripplett, Brad Scioli

Key Back-ups
DE - Josh Mallard, Raheem Brock, Robert Mathis
DT - Montae Reagor, Josh Williams

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Rob Morris
OLB - David Thornton, Marcus Washington

MLB - Jim Nelson, Keyon Whiteside ®
OLB - Donnel Thompson, Cato June ®, J.R. Johnson

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Mike Doss ® (SS), Idrees Bashir (FS)
CB - Walt Harris, David Macklin

Key Back-ups
S - David Gibson, Rich Coady, Coy Bird, Jason Doering
CB - Joseph Jefferson, Nick Harper, Donald Strickland ®

NOTES:
Dwight Freeney answered critics who thought him too short to succeed as DE. He's now the starter at RDE and looks to be a double-digit sack threat for years to come.

David Thornton replaces Mike Peterson on the weak-side, the position Derrick Brooks also became a star in Tony Dungy's defense in Tampa Bay. He is a prime candidate for a breakout season.

Idrees Bashir and Walt Harris are the only two DB's locked into starting spots. Rookie Mike Doss will challenge free agent Rich Coady and David Gibson. David Macklin will be pushed by several candidates, including Joseph Jefferson, whose size would benefit their defensive backfield.

Jacksonville
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Hugh Douglas, Marco Coleman
DT - John Henderson, Marcus Stroud

Key Back-ups
DE - Tony Brackens (injured), Paul Spicer, Javor Mills
DT - Larry Smith

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Mike Peterson
OLB - Eric Westmoreland, Akin Ayodele

Key Back-ups
MLB - T.J. Slaughter
OLB - Keith Mitchell, Danny Clark

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Donovin Darius (SS), Marlon McCree (FS)
CB - Fernando Bryant, Jason Craft

Key Back-ups
S - Rashean Mathis ®, Johndale Carty
CB - Ike Charlton, Kiwaukee Thomas, James Trapp

NOTES:
Hugh Douglas came into the pre-draft mini-camp weighing 290 pounds, well above his normal playing weight of 275, but was down to 280 before the end of spring camps. Jacksonville will have to implement a less conservative scheme on passing down for Douglass to provide the fantasy value expected of him as a premier sack threat in Philly. The return of Tony Brackens will be crucial to helping keep Douglass fresh. The financial hurdle was cleared when Brackens restructured this spring, but he has yet to receive medical clearance to return from off-season knee surgery and also had an appendectomy in June.

Mike Peterson is coming off a huge season at the weak-side in Indy. It's hard to imagine his numbers will improve, but a move to MLB will help him continue to be a tackling machine. Akin Ayodele become the same outside rushing threat that head coach Jack Del Rio helped develop in tweener Peter Boulware in Baltimore. Ayodele will be challenged for the stong-side spot by last year's starter Danny Clark and free agent Keith Mitchell, but should at least see work on passing downs.

Kansas City
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Vonnie Holliday, Eric Hicks
DT - Ryan Sims, John Browning

Key Back-ups
DE - Gary Stills, Eddie Freeman, Jimmy Wilkerson ®
DT - Eric Downing, Derrick Ransom

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Mike Maslowski
OLB - Shawn Barber, Scott Fujita

Key Back-ups
MLB - Kawika Mitchell ®, Marvcus Patton, Monty Beisel
OLB - Quinton Caver, Larry Atkins

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Greg Wesley (SS), Jerome Woods (FS)
CB - Eric Warfield, William Bartee

Key Back-ups
S - Shaunard Harts, Lyle West, Clinton Finley, Willie Pile ®
CB - Dexter McCleon, Corey Harris, Darrius Johnson, Julian Battle ®, Willie Ford ®

NOTES:
Vonnie Holliday will help the run defense, but needs to provide some pass rush and last year's 1st round pick Ryan Sims needs to be a factor for KC's defense to improve.

Mike Maslowski moves to MLB, which should mean his fantasy value remains high after a breakout season last year. Top back-up Lew Bush has been released. Marvcus Patton has not yet been released, but the addition of rookie Kawika Mitchell makes his presence unnecessary. Back-up LBs who can't contribute on special teams aren't a luxury that can be afforded.

Miami
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Jason Taylor, Adewale Ogunleye
DT - Tim Bowens, Larry Chester

Key Back-ups
DE - Rob Burnett, Jay Williams, Lamanzer Williams
DT - Jeff Zgonina

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Zach Thomas
OLB - Junior Seau, Morlon Greenwood

Key Back-ups
MLB - Tommy Hendricks
OLB - Eddie Moore ®, Corey Jenkins ®

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Sammy Knight (SS), Brock Marion (FS)
CB - Patrick Surtain, Sam Madison

Key Back-ups
S - Arturo Freeman, Shawn Wooden
CB - Terrell Buckley, Jamar Fletcher, Korey Banks ®

NOTES:
Adewale Ogunleye emerged as a sleeper at DE last year and the Dolphins could have another in Lamanzer Williams. Honored with all-league recognition this summer, Williams lead the NFLE in sacks. He has struggled to stick with several teams, but is a name to remember if he makes the roster.

Eddie Moore should push Morlon Greenwood for the strong-side job in camp. Junior Seau is not the player he once was, but seems rejuvenated and should benefit from a stronger supporting cast. In mini-camp, he seemed completely recovered from last season's ankle problems.

Disappointment in former first round pick Jamar Fletcher, the Dolphins signed Terrell Buckley this off-season to compete for the third corner. Fletcher has done well this spring, but a staff under pressure for post-season achievement may go with the veteran. Undrafted rookie free agent Korey Banks has also impressed the team. Sam Madison should be fully recovered from off-season knee surgery by training camp.

Minnesota
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Kenny Mixon , Lance Johnstone
DT - Chris Hovan, Kevin Williams ®

Key Back-ups
DE - Lorenzo Bromell, Chuck Wiley, Willie Howard
DT - Fred Robbins, Billy Lyon

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Greg Biekert
OLB - Chris Claiborne, Henri Crockett

Key Back-ups
MLB - E.J. Henderon ®, Max Yates
OLB - Raonall Smith, Nick Rogers, Mike Nattiel ®

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Corey Chavous (SS), Willie Offord (FS)
CB - Denard Walker, Ken Irvin

Key Back-ups
S - Brian Russell, Jack Brewer
CB - Eric Kelly, Brian Williams

NOTES:
Minnesota hit the FA market and draft hard to address deficiencies in defense.

Lorenzo Bromell was a disappointment as a full-time player last season, failing to provide consistent pressure. Lance Johnson, usually employed as a rush specialist, should see more downs, with Bromell spelling him.

With LB suddenly a position of strength for the Vikings, there is talk of switching to a 3-4 defense. In this alignment, Chris Hovan would move to NT, with Kenny Mixon and 1st round pick Kevin Williams on the outside. Greg Biekert and E.J. Henderson would likely man the inside, with Claiborne and Raonall Smith or Henri Crockett on the outside. The team could also employ Lance Johnson's speed on the outside for pressure on passing downs.

New England
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Richard Seymour, Bobby Hamilton
NT - Jarvis Green

Key Back-ups
DE - Anthony Pleasant, Ty Warren ®, Rick Lyle, Willie McGinest
DT - Ken Kocher, Dan Klecko ®, Ethan Kelley ®, Ty Warren ®

LINEBACKERS
ILB - Roman Phifer, Ted Johnson
OLB - Rosevelt Colvin, Mike Vrabel

Key Back-ups
ILB - Tedy Bruschi, Don Davis, Larry Izzo
OLB - Willie McGinest, Tully Banta-Cain ®

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Lawyer Milloy (SS), Rodney Harrison (FS)
CB - Ty Law, Otis Smith

Key Back-ups
S - Aric Morris
CB - Tyrone Poole, Eugene Wilson ®, Asante Samuel ®

NOTES:
Richard Seymour moves to end on the right side in the new 3-4 alignment on defense. While such a defense usually hurts DE production, Seymour is a talent whose stats could be bolstered by the move. Anthony Plesant has been working that side with Seymour. Bobby Hamilton and rookie first round pick Ty Warren have worked the left side. Nose tackle is an open competition. Ty Warren may eventually land there, but Jarvis Green's progress has him in the lead.

Belichick's defense provides a variety of fronts, which rotates a lot of players and has a lot of situational roles. This limits value in the front 7, particularly at LB. Rosey Colvin is one lock for an OLB spot and likely to be on the field most of the time, bringing the pass rush the team sorely lacked last season. Roman Phifer has been the most consistent producer the last two year, and starts inside with Ted Johnson, where Tedy Bruschi will also see a lot of work. Brushci's stats can be expected to drop, despite missing some games last year. They were inflated a bit with a career high in sacks and two TD's. Mike Vrabel holds the other outside spot, where he's produced finally give the chance to be a starter. The presence of Seymour as an everydown DE and the addition of Colvin will further limit McGinnest's opportunities.

A high cap number and refusal to renegotiate essentially makes this a contract year for standout Lawyer Milloy. Coming off a disappointing season, he appeared in great shape in mini-camp. Those factors could lead to a big year for him. The addition of Rodney Harrison makes this the top hitting safety tandem in the league, and arguably the best all-around. Both could post top ten numbers. The team is impressed with rookie Eugene Wilson, and he may be in both the nickel and dime packages.

New Orleans
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Charles Grant, Darren Howard

Key Back-ups
DE - Willie Whitehead, Melvin Williams
DT - Grady Jackson, Martin Chase

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Orlando Ruff
OLB - Sedrick Hodge, Derrick Rodgers

Key Back-ups
MLB - Darrin Smith, Cie Grant ®
OLB - James Allen, Roger Knight

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Mel Mitchell (SS), Terbucky Jones (FS)
CB - Dale Carter, Ashley Ambrose

Key Back-ups
S - Jay Bellamy, Michael Hawthorne
CB - Fred Thomas, Keyuo Craver, Steve Smith

NOTES:
Poor conditioning and missing voluntary workouts have cost Grady Jackson a starting job, for now. However, if Johnathan Sullivan doesn't get a deal worked out in time for camp, Grady should be quickly reinserted to start training camp. The light went on late last season for Charles Grant and he could have a huge breakout as a pass rusher in his second season this year.

Free agent Derrick Rodgers was impressive in mini-camp and may have additional edge over James Allen in his experience. This defense will be very young this year and a lot of turnover in starters.

New York Giants
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Michael Strahan, Kenny Holmes
DT - Cornelius Griffin, Keith Hamilton

Key Back-ups
DE - Keith Washington, Frank Ferrara, Osi Umenyiora ®
DT - William Joseph ®

LINEBACKERS
MLB - Mike Barrow

Key Back-ups
MLB - Nick Greisen

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Shaun Williams (SS), Omar Stoutmire (FS)
CB - Will Allen, Will Peterson

Key Back-ups
S - Johnnie Harris, Clarence LeBlanc, Charles Drake ®
CB - Kato Serwanga, Rod Babers ®, Ralph Brown

NOTES:
Coming off a torn achilles tendon, Keith Hamilton's problems continued when he was arrested in May for, among other charges, possession of cocaine and marijuana. His misfortune provides an early opportunity for rookie William Joseph. After a disappointing senior year, including problems with a sprained knee, Joseph fell to the 25th pick, after looking like an early 1st round choice as a junior. He can be a rare impact player, statistically, in the interior defensive line and it will be sooner than later if Hamilton faces suspension. Cornelius Griffin had ankle surgery in January to alleviate problems he's had since his explosive rookie year. Osi Umenyiora is a project, but he can rush the passer and could be a factor if the sporadic Kenny Holmes struggles this year.

Both outside LBs Short and Jones are up and comers who will be quality players if they can eliminate more mistakes in their second year as starters. With a very strong line in front of them and Barrow solid up the middle, they will be free to make plays. Short and Jones are free agents after this year, and the team is high on their back-up LBs, so they have motivation to turn in big years. The team especially wants to get Nick Greisen more playing time.

The time is now for the promising young CB tandem. With Jason Sehorn out of the picture, Allen and Peterson both have the opportunity as full-time starters. Allen took a step forward last year, so teams might look to test Peterson, giving him the chance to post strong stats. He should be recovered from toe surgery by training camp.

NOTES:
New York's 1st round pick last season, DE Bryan Thomas, is up to 269 pounds and has looked good in mini-camps. With the personal and physical problems from last season also behind him, he is an exciting prospect as a productive pass rush specialist this season. Josh Evans is suspended indefinitely for violation of the league's substance abuse policy. This gives Dewayne Robertson a chance to be an impact player immediately, assuming he signs. His negotiations are dragging, and as he seems to have gained great leverage, he may not be in camp. Due to Evans suspension and problems with signing Robertson, Chester McGlockton was signed in mid-July. He is not in good shape and how much he can contribute will be determined in camp.

Mo Lewis had off-season hip surgery, but has already participated in off-season workouts. Victor Hobson could have an impact spelling LBs across the board this season.

Versatile, but undersized, Tyrone Carter has impressed the Jets with his hitting and quickness. He should compete with Ray Mickens for work in the nickel and dime packages.

CB - Terrance Shaw, Nnamdi Asomugha ®, Clarence Love

NOTES:
Tony Bryant has not been cleared to practice coming off a spinal cord injury last season, and the Raiders aren't counting on him to be ready for the season. His absence further muddles an unclear DE situation. DeLawrence Grant started most of last season on the left side, but failed to utilize his speed and athleticism. He has a tenuous hold on the right side while Bryant is out. If Bryant cannot go and Grant cannot provide a rush, last year's project, Kenyon Coleman, or this year's project, Sam Williams, may get a chance. They are very high on Williams and he's been off to a good start in mini-camps.

Trace Armstrong is expected to start on the left side, but he ruptured his groin last year after returning from a torn achilles. At 37, it's hard to imagine him as an every down player. Due to the situation, 1st round pick Tyler Brayton could contribute immediately. He can play inside, but may be best as an anchor at left end. Similarly, versatile Chris Cooper could be in the mix. He spent time starting at left end last year, as well.

With the questions at DE, athleticism of young players, and presence of several tweeners, it's likely the Raiders employ more 3-4 looks this year. Rod Coleman would move to a DE and rookie Sam Williams could be free to rush from an OLB spot.

Anthony Dorsett, cut in February in a cap clearing frenzy, was resigned in mid-July. The team remains skeptical Derrick Gibson will become the impact player they envisioned when spending a first round pick on him. They will compete for the starting SS job.

Philadelphia
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Brandon Whiting, Derrick Burgess

OLB - Ike Reese, Tyreo Harrison

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Michael Lewis (SS), Brian Dawkins (FS)
CB - Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent

Key Back-ups
S - Norman LeJune, Clinton Hart
CB - Sheldon Brown, Lito Sheppard

NOTES:
Filing Hugh Douglas's shoes looks like it will be a committee approach. They traded up for Jerome McDougle in the 1st round, and many assume he'd start. However, Andy Reid has mentioned Derrick Burgess as the starter, but his recovery from a broken foot makes him unavailable until training camp. Another rookie from Miami, Jamal Green, has also impressed on the right side, so McDougle is getting more work at LDE. N.D. Kalu had the most sacks of any DE on their roster last year, so he remains in the equation. A converted LB, Kalu added some weight this off-season to handle more work at DE.

Mark Simoneau has the speed to be productive in the middle of Philly's active defense, but his size is a concern. There were flirtations with Randall Godfrey alleged and last season the Eagles brought in Levon Kirkland late when they seemed satisfied to give Barry Gardner the job. If no such last minute move occurs, Simoneau could be a great producer being an every-down MLB.

A disgruntled Bobby Taylor has been absent from mini-camps, unhappy with no talk of an extension. Coming off one of his best seasons and entering a contract year seemed to bode well for him this year, but if this remains a distraction, it could hamper him and the team. Troy Vincent, coming off a bit of a down year statistically, is also in the final year of his contract. Michael Lewis is an excellent prospect to breakout after a solid rookie season as a part-time player and spot starter.

CB - Chad Scott, Dewayne Washington

Key Back-ups
S - Mike Logan, Brent Alexander
CB - Deshea Townsend, Hank Poteat, Ivan Taylor ®

NOTES:
Rodney Bailey provided great pressure rushing in the dime last year and could gain more time from the aging Kimo von Oelhoffen. Brad Keisel also figures into the picture.

After injury prevented him from fully building on an impressive rookie year, Kendrell Bell appears to be huge in the Steelers plans this year. They say he will be used in many roles, keeping him on the field in their nickel and dime defenses. Dynasty leaguers should keep an eye on LB Larry Foote, drafted last year, and converted DE Alonzo Jackson, drafted this year, for the long term. Pittsburgh has an uncanny ability to find and develop successful LBs.

Mike Logan and 1st round pick Troy Polamalu are expected to battle for SS, but injuries limited them in mini-camp, Logan is recovering from off-season knee surgery. Chris Hope spent much of the time at SS in mini-camp, but is expected to compete for the FS job.

NOTES:
Knee and back problems have limited Jimmy Kennedy in mini-camp. Former 1st round picks Damione Lewis and Ryan Pickett are expected to start ahead of him.

Robert Thomas struggled with injuries and playing out of position at OLB as a rookie. He bulked up over the off-season and is expected to start over Jamie Duncan, who disappointed after coming from TB last season. Thomas has the speed to be an every-down LB and could put up some excellent stats in this active defense.

NOTES:
Marcellus Wiley had off-season surgery for a torn abdominal muscle that plagued him last season. He is poised to return to double-digit sack territory.

Donnie Edwards returns to the weak-side with the departure of Junior Seau after a productive year as MLB. Zeke Moreno is the early leader to assume the starting MLB job, but will still have to hold off Carlos Polk in training camp.

Rookie Terrence Kiel was shot three times 7/4. Fortunately, the injuries were not serious, and he may even be ready for camp. Mid-August is set for his return, after abdominal surgery, knee surgery, and needed a broken leg to heal. Kiel had impressed working with the first team at SS with Vernon Fox injured in mini-camp and was competing for the starting job. Fox and Lassiter have the inside track for now.

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Tony Parrish (SS), Zack Bronson (FS)
CB - Ahmed Plummer, Jason Webster (injured)

Key Back-ups
S - John Keith, Ronnie Heard, Kevin Curtis
CB - Mike Rumph, Fred Weary, Rashad Holman

NOTES:
Rookie Andrew Williams excited the staff with his potential to add a pash rush from the left side. However, he broke a finger in the first mini-camp and will be sidelined until training camp. Rookie Anthony Adams will compete with Jim Flanigan to replace Dana Stubblefield.

With strength at LB, the team is expected to present more 3-4 fronts this season. Coach Dennis Erickson said how much will be determined in training camp. The team would like to capitalize on the speed and versatility of young players like Julian Peterson, Jaime Winborn, Saleem Rasheed, and Andrew Williams. Jeff Ulbrich is a better fit inside.

Jason Webster had ankle surgery this spring and has not yet been cleared to participate in training camp. Veteran Fred Weary was been signed, as last year's 1st round pick, Mike Rumph, was overwhelmed as a rookie. Rumph could win the nickel job, and should make major strides this year, but if Webster cannot go, Weary will likely get the first opportunity in a good fantasy position opposite standout Ahmed Plummer.

MLB - Orlando Huff, Isaiah Kacyvenski, Solomon Bates ®
OLB - Marcus Bell, D.D. Lewis, Tim Terry

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Reggie Tongue (SS), Damien Robinson (FS)
CB - Shawn Springs, Ken Lucas

Key Back-ups
S - Ken Hamlin ®, Terreal Bierria
CB - Marcus Trufant ®, Doug Evans, Willie Williams

NOTES:
The addition of new defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes may be their most important. Only once has he coordinated a defense ranked out of the top ten.

Chike Okeafor has been added to help a pass rush that was among the worst in the league. He started off strong in his first opportunity as a starter last year in San Francisco, before tailing off the second half of the season. The Seahawks two top rushing threats, John Randle and Chad Brown, are both aging and had their seasons shortened by injury last year. Norman Hand is also added and will likely be employed as a space-eater on running downs in place of Randle.

Randall Godfrey will strengthen the middle on running downs. His presence should require fewer tackles by SS Reggie Tongue. Rookie Solomon Bates will compete with last year's platoon of Orlando Huff and Isaiah Kacyvenski to spell Godfrey. D.D. Lewis has impressed Ray Rhodes and has been mentioned as the MLB in the dime package. Anthony Simmons returns from missing most of last year with injury, and looks to return to his 100+ tackle form of the two previous seasons.

This is a contract season for CB Shawn Springs, and he has said he's eager to get in and play under Ray Rhodes. If he can stay healthy and regain his status as a shut down corner, Ken Lucas and rookie Marcus Trufant, who is expected to win the nickel job and could overtake Lucas, could be the fantasy beneficiaries of drawing the attention of opposing QB's. Veterans Reggie Tongue and Damien Robinson are solid, but they won't be able to hold off hard-hitting second round pick Ken Hamlin from the starting lineup for long.

Key Back-ups

CB - Corey Ivy, Tim Wansley, Torrie Cox ®

NOTES:
Derrick Brooks 4 TDs last year greatly skew his fantasy stats. He is a tremendous stat producer, but the likely lack of TDs (he had 3 INT returns for a TD last year, his previous career total was 1) will bring him down from the top 2 ranking he had in many leagues.

Dwight Smith is penciled in to replace Super Bowl MVP Dexter Jackson at FS, but will face competition from Jermaine Phillips.

Tennessee
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
DE - Jevon Kearse, Kevin Carter
DT - Albert Haynesworth, Robaire Smith

OLB - Rocky Calmus, Rocky Boiman

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Tank Williams (SS), Lance Schulters (FS)
CB - Samari Rolle, Andre Dyson

Key Back-ups
S - Donnie Nickey ®, Thomas Wright ®
CB - Mike Echols, Tony Beckham, Andre Woolfolk ®

NOTES:
Carlos Hall was impressive in place of Jevon Kearse last year. He will still see opportunities on passing downs and is a great sleeper if Kearse's foot problems continue to plague him. Kearse should be ready by camp, but will be limited in the preseason.

The release of Randall Godfrey leaves a 3-man battle for the starting MLB slot. Chamberlin is the early favorite, with the most experience. Kassell, a 2002 undrafted FA, has impressed DC Gunther Cunningham. Calmus, a 3rd round pick last year, is also a good fit on the outside, so all other things being equal, his flexibility may have them keep him in a utility role. Either way, his playing time should increase this season.

Mike Echols and Tony Beckham will compete with 1st round pick Andre Woolfolk for the nickel and dime back - a spot the team viewed as a starter's position last year since the third corner was on the field 65 percent of the snaps.

DEFENSIVE BACKS
S - Ifeanyi Ohalete (SS), Matt Bowen (FS)
CB - Champ Bailey, Fred Smoot

Key Back-ups
S - David Terrell, Andre Lott
CB - Alex Molden, Rashad Bauman

NOTES:
Regan Upshaw missed much of last season with a torn ACL, not seeing action until November. The knee gave him problems after the first mini-camp and required additional surgery in early May. He is expected to be ready for training camp. If he suffers any setbacks, unless the Redskins add another DE, Bruce Smith is expected to start. The 40 year old future Hall of Famer was questioning his desire to play this year after the team signed Upshaw to start. He is 3 sacks shy of Reggie White's career record.

Jeremiah Trotter has been rehabbing a torn ACL that occurred on Thanksgiving, but participated in parts of mini-camp and should be ready by training camp.
